One of the best parts about summer is having bonfires where you can roast marshmallows for s’mores. With winter being in full swing, I am really missing s’mores so I have resorted to making the next best thing – s’mores hot chocolate! Now this is the real deal, it has all of your favorite chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavor but in a warm cup! This drink is great to serve to both kids and adults alike and while the recipe only makes one serving, you can easily double or triple it.

Can I use white chocolate instead?
Of course! Directly substitute in white chocolate for the regular chocolate.
What can I top this drink with?
I usually top s’mores hot chocolate with chocolate sauce, mini marshmallows, and crushed graham crackers but it’s totally up to you what you want on top.
Can I toast the marshmallows on top?
If you are using an oven safe mug, you sure can. Put the hot chocolate in the mug and then top with the marshmallows. Place in a dish or a pan and then place in the oven to broil for 5-10 seconds. The marshmallows should be golden. Alternatively, if you have a kitchen safe torch (like the kind you use for creme brulee) you could use that to toast the top. Please make sure your mug is oven safe for either option so you don’t ruin it!
How can I make hot chocolate even better?
Some easy ways to make your hot chocolate to the next level include substituting in heavy whipping cream or half-and-half for some of the milk to make it even creamier or upgrading your chocolate chips to nicer ones like ghirardelli.
Where can I get toasted marshmallow syrup?
You can buy toasted marshmallow syrup at most grocery stores in the coffee syrup department from brands such as Torani. If neither option works, you can use a tablespoon of marshmallow fluff instead.

- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon toasted marshmallow syrup
Toppings (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon crushed graham cracker
- Chocolate sauce
- Mini marshmallows
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, chocolate chips, and toasted marshmallow syrup. Cook until chocolate has fully melted.
- Remove from heat and pour into a mug. Top with mini marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and crushed graham crackers (optional)
