Common Questions About Making a Mai Tai Cocktail
What is a mai tai cocktail?
The mai tai cocktail is a tropical tiki drink made with pineapple juice, lime juice, orange curacao, orgeat, dark rum, and light rum. It is served iced.
How many servings does this recipe make?
Are oregeat and almond simple syrup the same thing?
No, orgeat is sweetened drink syrup made with orange flower water and almonds while almond simple syrup is a sweetened drink syrup made from almond extract. In this recipe, either will work and get the sweet almond flavor across in the drink.
Should I buy pre-made orgeat or can I make it at home?
I usually just make it at home because it’s all ingredients that you probably have in your pantry (almond extract, sugar, and water) and it only takes a few minutes. It ends up much cheaper than buying it at the store too (click HERE for my recipe)! If you would rather buy it, it may be under the name “almond simple syrup” which is located in the coffee aisle.
How should I garnish this cocktail?
Some of my favorite garnishes include –
- Slice of pineapple
- Slice of lime
- Slice of orange
- Maraschino cherry
- Sprig of mint
How many servings does this recipe make?
This recipe makes 1 serving but it can easily be scaled up for more servings.
