Java Chip Frappuccino {Starbucks Copycat}

Java chip frappuccinos are the BEST! They are one of my go-to recipes to get at Starbucks when I am downstate so when I was craving one recently (and I live over 100 miles from the closest Starbucks), I knew that I had to figure out how to make them at home! To make your very own java chip frappuccino, you need 5 super simple ingredients – espresso (or strongly brewed coffee), milk, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, and ice.  Just blend them all together and serve.

If you don’t have an espresso machine, I suggest clicking HERE to make homemade espresso without a machine.

Common Questions About Making a Java Chip Frappuccino

What is a java chip frappuccino?

A java chip frappuccino is a blended drink made using chocolate syrup, cooled coffee or espresso, milk, chocolate chips, and ice.

Can you get a java chip frappuccino without coffee?

Yes! If you want to make a mocha frappuccino without coffee, all you need to do is substitute extra milk for coffee in the recipe.  I suggest also adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream.

What is the difference between a frappe and frappuccino?

There is not a difference between a frappe and frappuccino.  The name just depends on what coffeeshop you are at.  Another name for the same drink is a blended coffee.

What is the difference between a frappuccino and iced coffee?

The difference between a frappuccino and iced coffee is that a frappuccino is blended and has a base that is made from vanilla ice cream or something similar.  An iced coffee is simply coffee served over ice.

Can a java chip frappuccino be made vegan?

Of course! Just substitute in non-dairy milk, non-dairy ice cream, and use a non-dairy whipped cream!
