One of my favorite drinks to get during the holidays is a peppermint mocha latte.  This drink takes like Christmas in a cup and is so good! After making a mocha latte earlier this year, I knew all that I had to do to make this peppermint version was to add a bit of peppermint simple syrup to it and give it some fun holiday garnish like red sprinkles, chopped candy canes, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.  Another thing you can do to take your latte to the next level is make homemade peppermint whipped cream to top it with but if not, normal whipped cream is totally fine.

Common Questions About Making a Mocha Latte

What is a peppermint mocha latte made of?

A peppermint mocha latte is made of espresso, milk, chocolate syrup, peppermint syrup, and whipped cream

Can a peppermint mocha be made vegan?

While it may not be listed as vegan in the recipe, it can be made vegan with some simple swaps.

  1. Swap dairy milk for your favorite dairy alternatives such as soy, oat, or almond milk.
  2. Check that your mocha syrup is vegan! It should be as the main ingredients are usually sugar, corn syrup, and cocoa powder but it’s worth confirming.
  3. Sub out the whipped cream for a vegan whipped cream made with something like coconut milk! You can either make it at home or buy it in a can from most grocery stores.

Where can I get chocolate syrup?

Most grocery stores should carry it in the area by the coffee department with all of the drink/dessert sauces and syrups.  There is a Starbucks branded version you can use or a few other varieties.  Click HERE for my homemade recipe.

Where can I get peppermint simple syrup?

Like the chocolate syrup above, you should be able to buy it at most grocery stores but you can also make it at home by clicking HERE.

Can I make a latte without espresso?

Yes, so there are a few different options for ways to get close to espresso.  The cheapest option would be to brew quite strong coffee in a normal coffee pot which won’t be exactly the same but it’ll work.  If you have a moka pot or an aeropress coffee maker, those will get you pretty close to regular espresso.  If you use the moka pot or espresso, follow the same proportions in the recipe but if you choose to go the strongly brewed coffee route, use 3/4 cups coffee and 1/2 cup milk.
