Who here LOVES getting caramel macchiatos at coffee shops?! Those were my go-to drink to get at our campus coffee shop back during my freshman year of college, I most of my dining dollars on them because they were so delicious!

With summer being in full swing, the last thing I want to being doing is drinking a hot drink so I wanted to turn this classic into a delicious iced drink that is perfect to enjoy right now and I came up with this! It is so refreshing and tastes amazing!

Common Questions About Making Iced Caramel Macchiatos

What is the difference between a caramel macchiato and a caramel latte?

The difference between a caramel macchiato and a caramel latte is that a caramel macchiato is made by putting vanilla syrup, milk, foam, espresso, and then caramel syrup in a cup in that order.  In a caramel latte, the order is caramel syrup, espresso, and milk (plus sometimes whipped cream).

How can I steam milk at home?

One of the best parts of a latte at a coffee shop is the steamed milk in the latte.  The easiest way I have found to get a similar effect at home is once you have heated your milk with the caramel, use an immersion blender to foam it up a bit before pouring into a mug.

Other tips and tricks on this iced caramel macchiato recipe

  • If you have an espresso machine, then you can sub in 2 shots chilled espresso for the coffee in the recipe.
  • Love cold brew? You can use it in this recipe for a different spin! HERE is a recipe for cold brew so that you can make it right at home!
  • Instead of ice, freeze extra coffee in an ice tray and use it in the iced latte to avoid it getting watered down!
  • It is up to you whether you would like to use milk or half-and-half in the recipe.  Personally, I am a half-and-half person.
  • Homemade vanilla simple syrup is an amazing alternative for store-bought vanilla syrup but that is totally optional! Check out my recipe for it HERE along with my homemade caramel sauce recipe HERE.
