Cara Cara Orange Cranberry Margarita
Welcome to the season of CITRUS!!!! My youngest girls love oranges of all varieties and once you can buy really nice citrus in the stores, they are happy, happy, happy. Mom is happy too though, there’s nothing better than a fresh, juicy orange!I recently ran across a really great deal at Aldi, if you aren’t an Aldi shopper you must give it a shot. They had bags of Cara Cara oranges for $1.99 a bag! No doubt about it I grabbed a couple of bags and into my cart they went.
Have you ever tried a Cara Cara orange? I hadn’t tried them until last year, and I was instantly in love. The flavor, the color, the whole package!
What is a Cara Cara orange?
On the outside, they appear pretty much like a standard Navel orange. In fact, I wouldn’t know the difference. BUT, the inside is where the magic is at! Cut one open and there’s a beautiful pinkish-red color that’s simply gorgeous. Now as for the flavor, it’s sweet and oh so good. BONUS…they are seedless too!
So of course with a sweet orange flavor and a magical color, I knew I had to whip up a cocktail. Personally, I think you could just gulp the juice of these oranges down because it’s so good, but a little bit in a cocktail is just perfect too.
For me, margarita season isn’t just limited to Cinco de Mayo or summer sipping. In fact, I bet Cara Cara Orange Cranberry Margaritas would make a great addition to the upcoming Super Bowl!
When can you purchase Cara Cara oranges?
Typically citrus season, but they seem to be mostly available January-March depending on growing conditions.
This Cara Cara Orange Cranberry Margarita is simple to make and the recipe can easily be increased by multiply the ingredients. I ultimately added some cranberry juice to this margarita which adds a nice complimentary flavor and color to this tasty cocktail.

- Can’t find Cara Cara oranges? Boo…use regular orange juice.
- I like to squeeze juice from the Cara Cara oranges, and then strain. If you like pulp no need to strain.
