Cake Batter Milkshake

If you run into me during the summer, I can almost guarantee that I will have a milkshake in my hand.  I am an absolute milkshake fanatic who rarely actually eats a bowl of ice cream.  One of my favorite flavors from my local ice cream shop is their cake batter milkshake.  To make it at home, all I did was add some yellow cake mix to my vanilla milkshake recipe along with some sprinkles for color and I had the perfect cake batter milkshake!

Now it may sound a bit weird to just add cake mix to a drink but trust me, it gives it that perfect cake-y flavor.  I like to use yellow cake mix but white or funfetti would work great too.  Other varieties would also be delicious like chocolate or strawberry but it would give it a very different flavor than the classic cake batter milkshake.

Common Questions About Making a Cake Batter Milkshake

A cake batter milkshake is a simple blended drink made with vanilla ice cream, cake mix, sprinkles, and milk.

Can I eat raw cake mix?

As I explained in my sugar cookie dough recipe, it can be dangerous to eat raw flour because of the bacteria that may be found in it.  If you are concerned about any bacteria in flour, preheat oven to 350°F, spread flour in a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, and bake for 5 minutes.  It’s a super easy process that can alleviate any worry.

What kind of cake mix should I use?

So I usually use yellow cake mix but white or funfetti would work too.

What kind of ice cream should I use?

I usually use my homemade no-churn vanilla bean ice cream but you can use any store-bought french vanilla, vanilla, or vanilla bean.

What kind of toppings can I add?

So I used homemade whipped cream, sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry in the pictures but chocolate sauce or white chocolate sauce would also be delicious too!

There are so many awesome uses for cake mix other than just making a cake! Some of my favorite uses include –

Can I make this recipe vegan?

Of course! Just use vegan vanilla ice cream (with a base from coconut, soy, almond, etc rather than dairy) and non-dairy milk.
