Butterscotch Latte – A delicious homemade latte with espresso, milk, and butterscotch sauce. Filled with a butterscotch flavor, this drink tastes great!
This may sound crazy but I had never had butterscotch until recently. Like, nothing butterscotch flavored at all. I thought it was just that funky looking yellow candy and that was it so when I learned that it was a sweet, caramel like sauce made with rich dark brown sugar, my mind was blown. I set out to try it and it completely knocked my socks off! After making a batch of homemade butterscotch sauce a few weeks ago, I was looking for ways to use it and I decided to make a fun spin on my caramel latte recipe – a butterscotch latte recipe!
This is my classic latte recipe made with butterscotch sauce. Made with just 3 simple ingredients, it is going to be a new favorite drink during the holidays or just as a fun sweet treat.
Common Questions About Making a Butterscotch Latte
What is a butterscotch latte?
A butterscotch latte is a latte made with espresso, milk, and butterscotch sauce. It’s perfectly sweet and lovely to drink.
Should I use homemade butterscotch sauce or pre-made?
Either will work! I use homemade butterscotch sauce but both will taste great.
How can I steam milk at home?
One of the best parts of a latte at a coffee shop is the steamed milk in the latte. The easiest way I have found to get a similar effect at home is once you have heated your milk, use an immersion blender to foam it up a bit before pouring into a mug.
What kind of milk should I use?
You can use any milk you want! This is a recipe that can be very easily made vegan by just using a non-dairy milk such as oat or soy but regular cows milk is great too.
How can I make a starbucks copycat smoked butterscotch latte?
Just make this recipe with 1 drop of liquid smoke. Do not use any more than that, liquid smoke is really strong!
Can I make a latte without espresso?
Yes, so there are a few different options for ways to get close to espresso. I use my homemade espresso recipe which can be found by clicking HERE but you could also brew quite strong coffee in a normal coffee pot which won’t be exactly the same but it’ll work. If you have a moka pot or an aeropress coffee maker, those will get you pretty close to regular espresso. If you use the moka pot or espresso, follow the same proportions in the recipe but if you choose to go the strongly brewed coffee route, use 3/4 cups coffee and 1/2 cup milk.
